King: Peace efforts are in a critical stage
| International |
His Majesty King Abdullah II said that efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East are in a very critical stage.
During a meeting with a delegation from J Street Organization currently visiting Jordan within a regional tour, the King stressed the need for a coordinated and intensive international action to the solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution and within a regional context to bring about peace in the Middle East.
The King told the delegation that a two-state solution that leads to the creation of an independent Palestinian state living in peace with Israel was the only way to bring about peace in the region.
His Majesty warned that any delay in launching serious and effective negotiations to realize the two-state solution within a specific timeline and in accordance with terms of reference, mainly the Arab Peace Initiative, will undermine chances of creating a Palestinian state and lead the region to a new cycle of violence.
At the meeting, attended by Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi and the King's Advisor Ayman Safadi, the King hailed commitment of the US President Barack Obama to achieve peace in the region and said the US plays a central in this regard.
J Street is a nonprofit advocacy US-Jewish group based in the United States that promotes American leadership to end the Arab-Israeli and Palestinian-Israel conflicts peacefully and diplomatically.
The organization, which on several occasions expressed its concern over policies of the current Israeli government, supports the right of Palestinians in creating an independent and sovereign state that lives in peace and security beside Israel on the 1967 borders.
It also calls for establishing comprehensive peace in the Middle East through the Arab Peace Initiative.
