His Majesty King Abdullah II held a bilateral meeting with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete followed by extensive talks that covered means of boosting cooperation between the two countries as well as the latest developments in the Middle East.

His Majesty reviewed prospects of increasing cooperation between Jordan and Tanzania, mainly in the economic, trade, scientific and tourism fields to achieve interests of both countries.

The two leaders also discussed means of promoting investment cooperation through encouraging the private sector in both counties to set up joint projects in various fields.

They also voiced hope that the signing of an economic, scientific and technical cooperation deal as well as an agreement to establish a joint Jordanian-Tanzanian committee, would institutionalize bilateral cooperation, increase trade exchange and expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

The talks, which continued over a lunch banquet held by His Majesty in honour of the Tanzanian president, also touched on the latest developments on the regional and international levels and efforts to remove obstacles facing the launch of effective and serious negotiations to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, and in line with terms of reference and within a regional context.

The talks were attended by Prime Minister Samir Rifai, Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Khalid Jamil Sarayrah, the King's Advisor Ayman Safadi, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Agriculture Minister Saeed Al Masri and the King's Envoy to Africa Nael Al Asa'ad.

The talks were attended on the Tanzanian side by Minister of Defence Hussein Mwinyi, Infrastructure Development Minister Shukuru Kawambwa, Tourism Minister Samia H. Suluhu and Deputy Foreign Minister and International Cooperation Seif Ali Iddi.

Earlier, the Tanzanian president was accorded an official welcoming ceremony led by His Majesty the King.

King Abdullah visited Tanzania in 2005 within an African tour.

Trade exchange between Jordan and the African nation is modest.

The Kingdom's exports to Tanzania include fertilizers, and chemical and plastic products, while imports include tobacco, spices and textile.
